Their Majesties Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako arrived in the Netherlands on the afternoon of June 13 local time aboard a government aircraft from Tokyo's Haneda Airport. It marks the first state visit to the Netherlands by a reigning Japanese emperor in 26 years.
The Imperial couple last visited the country in 2013, when they attended the inauguration of King Willem-Alexander as Crown Prince and Crown Princess.
Arrival at Schiphol Airport
Shortly after 7 PM, Their Majesties arrived at Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport, where they were welcomed by Japan's Ambassador to the Netherlands, Rokuichiro Michii, and Dutch officials, exchanging greetings and handshakes.
They then traveled by car to Het Oude Loo, a palace on a royal estate in Apeldoorn, where they are staying. Their Majesties are scheduled to begin their official engagements as state guests on June 17.
