Noto Satoyama Airport in Wajima, Ishikawa Prefecture, has been transformed into a Pokémon-themed airport through a collaboration with the popular franchise.
The airport was renamed "Noto Satoyama Pokémon With You Airport" on Monday, and a ceremony was held to mark the relaunch of the facility, which was damaged by the 2024 Noto Peninsula earthquake and subsequent heavy rains.
Boosting Noto's Recovery
Wajima was one of the areas hardest hit by the earthquake, which struck Ishikawa Prefecture on January 1, 2024. As recovery efforts continue, the airport's reopening as a Pokémon-themed attraction is expected to contribute to the region's revitalization.
The airport has been decorated throughout with Pokémon characters, and exclusive merchandise is being sold. The ceremony began at 8 AM with an appearance by Pikachu, followed by a ribbon-cutting ceremony and photo sessions with children.

Ishikawa Governor Yukiyoshi Yamano said, "I hope the excitement created by the Pokémon airport will become a driving force for Noto's recovery and provide a major boost. I hope people from around the world will come visit."
The project was launched following a proposal from the Pokémon With You Foundation, which conducts social contribution activities. A balloon featuring Pikachu riding in an airplane now hangs in the terminal's atrium, while the surrounding walls are decorated with Pokémon characters set against backgrounds inspired by the Noto region.
