Makoto Nakashinjo
Makoto Nakashinjo was born in Ishigaki City, Okinawa Prefecture in 1973. After graduating from the University of the Ryukyus, he joined the Yaeyama Nippo, a local newspaper, in 1999. In 2010, he became that paper's editor-in-chief and currently he is the publication's senior editor. While most of the media in Okinawa Prefecture has developed a strong "progressive" ideological tinge, Nakashinjo has consistently sought to maintain independent local coverage and reporting.
His books include Okinawa Has Forgotten Its "War Heroes" (Kakubunsha), Governor Onaga and the Okinawan Media: An Anti-Japan/Pro-China Dynamic Duo Running Wild (Sankei Shimbun Publications, Inc.) and Starting a "Third Newspaper" in a Biased Okinawan Newspaper World (Sankei Shimbun Publications, Inc.)
