JAPAN Forward launched its "Ignite" series of English essays to directly share the voices of students in Japan with their global peers. International Christian University student Natsuki Eba is one. Within the Institute for International Business Communication (IIBC) speech contest's motto, "Let's communicate with the world," Eba makes an impassioned appeal for people to consciously balance the compromises that come with the convenience of AI. "Refuse to lose" the processes and experiences that bring something important to us, she implores.

Eba and other students participated in the IIBC 4th annual IIBC University Student English Speech Contest on February 21. Delivering their remarks in English, Eba and her co-participants shared their thoughts about important subjects of the time.

Eba's speech won the 1st Prize in the 4th annual contest. What should we take away from her comments? Let's listen.

About the Winner:

Natuski Eba is a student at International Christian University. In her speech, Eba considers how AI affects how we learn and our exposure to new ideas and information. She explains: "As AI becomes increasingly widespread, we are losing the small excitement that once came from chance encounters and casual conversations that were part of the 'process.' How should we deal with this 'loss of process' while continuing to enjoy the benefits of convenience?"

Upon winning the 4th annual IIBC English Contest 1st Prize, she shared this additional comment:

"I hope that this speech will resonate with others and inspire new realizations. Everyone who went through the process of participating in this speech contest experienced the feelings of worrying, thinking, consulting, revising, and practicing. For all of us, I'm sure, this will become a precious treasure. I'd like to express my sincere gratitude to everyone who has supported me so far."
