Tokyo's Marunouchi business district has launched its annual MARUNOUCHI BRIGHT HOLIDAY illumination event. In 2024, characters from the popular Super Mario series add a special touch to the festive lights across the area.
A lighting ceremony took place on November 14, with special guests comedy duo Nankai Candies turning on the lights by hovering their hands over the switch. Applause and cheers filled the air as the displays lit up.
'Worth the Trip'
The main attraction, the "Super Mario Power-Up Illumination," is set in the Marunouchi Building's first-floor Marucube atrium. Inspired by the iconic game scene where power-ups emerge from mystery blocks, this display runs every 15 minutes from 5 PM to 9 PM.
An employee visiting from Yokohama with his family smiled and said, "I've been playing Mario games since I was young. The illuminations are beautiful and worth the trip."
In addition to the main display, six nearby spots — including the Shin-Marunouchi Building and Marunouchi Oazo — feature themed sculptures, photo spots, and more. The illuminations will run through January 13.
