On February 3, Suzuki announced that it had received around 50,000 orders for the new Jimny Nomade, which was unveiled on January 30. This far surpasses their initial sales target, prompting the company to temporarily stop accepting new orders.
The Jimny Nomade is the first compact five-door model in the popular Jimny series. It is set to be released on April 3. Produced in India, the global model will first be sold overseas before its release in Japan. Prices will start at ¥2,651,000 JPY (around $17,100 USD).
A company representative stated, "We will continue working to deliver vehicles that have already been ordered as quickly as possible. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused to customers who are considering or have already placed an order."
Suzuki also announced that the preview events and exhibitions at shopping malls across Japan would be canceled.
Key Features
The Jimny Nomade is equipped with a 1.5-liter engine. In addition to the series' renowned off-road capabilities, it boasts improved rear-seat comfort and increased cargo space for better everyday usability.
Compared to the smaller three-door Jimny Sierra, the rear seats have been moved 50mm (about 2 inches) rearward to provide more legroom. The distance between rear passengers has also been increased by 90mm. The cargo space offers a volume of 211 liters, which is enough to accommodate travel luggage, even with four passengers onboard.
The Nomade is positioned as the third pillar in the Jimny series, following the kei car Jimny and the Jimny Sierra.
Suzuki President Toshihiro Suzuki stated at a press conference, "We want to nurture this vehicle, which is loved and needed by professionals, and remains close to everyday life."
The first Jimny model was launched in 1970. Known for its ability to drive on snowy roads and muddy paths, it gained high praise as a rugged, off-road four-wheel-drive vehicle. In 2024, the series reached a cumulative global sales figure of 3.5 million units.
