Studio Ghibli announced on March 17 that a new exhibition of "Panorama Box" artworks will open at Ghibli Park in Aichi Prefecture on July 8. These 3D artworks were created by Director Hayao Miyazaki to bring his animated worlds to life.

Producer Toshio Suzuki and Director Goro Miyazaki held a press conference in Tokyo to unveil several of these pieces to the media.

Hand-Crafted Worlds in Miniature

Miyazaki began working on the Panorama Boxes in 2022 while finishing his film The Boy and the Heron. To create them, he cut out hand-drawn illustrations and arranged them inside boxes to create a sense of depth.

A total of 31 pieces, inspired by classics like Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind and Howl's Moving Castle, will be on display. Visitors can enjoy the scenes by peering through small windows in the boxes.

Suzuki provided an update on the 85-year-old director's wellbeing. "He is incredibly energetic and still shows a strong desire to keep making movies," he said. "His artistic talent hasn't faded at all — it's actually still evolving."
