On February 9, the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum recorded 1,983,983 visitors for fiscal year 2024 (ending April 2025). The Hiroshima Peace Culture Foundation, an organization affiliated with Hiroshima City, reported the figures. The foundation works to raise awareness of the atomic bomb's impact and promote international peace.
Since the previous record was set in fiscal year 2023 at 1,981,782 visitors, this marks the second consecutive year of record-breaking attendance. The increase is believed to be driven by growing global concerns amid geopolitical instability. A surge in inbound visitors due to the weak yen may also be a contributing factor.

Visits to Top Two Million
According to the museum, total visitor numbers for FY 2024 are expected to surpass two million. In March, the cumulative number of visitors since the museum's opening in 1955 is projected to exceed 80 million. However, overcrowding has become a growing issue, prompting Hiroshima City to introduce measures to manage the situation.

Museum Director Yoshifumi Ishida commented, "With momentum building for nuclear disarmament—as seen in the Nobel Peace Prize being awarded to the Japan Confederation of A- and H-Bomb Sufferers Organizations [Nihon Hidankyo] — we hope more people will visit the museum and understand the catastrophic consequences of nuclear weapons being used again."
