The Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) opens in Yokohama on August 20.

On the eve of the conference, the host city set up a tourist information desk at Pacifico Yokohama in Nishi Ward. Until the closing day on the 22nd, Yokohama will use the desk to promote the city to visiting participants.

This marks the fourth time Yokohama has hosted TICAD, following the conferences of 2008, 2013, and 2019. The city brands itself as "the city closest to Africa."

On the afternoon of August 19, a tourist desk opened on the second floor of the Pacifico Yokohama Conference Center to introduce nearby attractions and restaurants. The desk offers city maps and brochures, highlighting sites such as Sankeien Garden and the Silk Museum. Staff are on hand to assist visitors, and transportation to and from the area is efficient.

A total of 26 staff members, drawn from across city government offices, including the ward office, have been assigned to the desk. On the opening day, a participant from Côte d'Ivoire was seen asking for directions to the aquarium.

Toshiki Nakabachi, section chief of the Global Network Promotion Division in Yokohama's International Affairs Bureau, said, "There is no better opportunity to showcase Yokohama. We hope visitors will have a great conference and leave with a lasting positive impression of Yokohama."

Some favorite areas of the city are nearby, including the Yokohama Museum of Art, Mitsubishi Minatomirai Museum, Yamashita Park, Yokohama Chinatown, and Yokohama's old foreign settlement area.
