July is the best time to see lavender in full bloom in Nakafurano, Hokkaido. At Farm Tomita, which is open to tourists, the flowers were coloring the entire hill in bright purple on July 15, and the surrounding area was wrapped in a soft scent.
Approximately 60,000 species of lavender of different shades of purple are in full bloom at the farm.
According to the proprietors, the flowers bloomed about a week earlier than usual this year. In addition to lavender, other colorful flowers such as red poppies and white gypsophila also adorn the hills.
A woman in her twenties from Sapporo, who was visiting a friend, looked happy and said to Sankei Shimbun: "It's the first time I’ve come here, but the scent of real lavender made me feel relaxed. It's nothing like artificial fragrances."
