Prime Minister Shinzo Abe had struggled with exhaustion for weeks as Japanese media speculated about his frequent hospital visits. And then it was revealed a recurring medical condition had become a problem. Abe called a press conference on the afternoon of 28 August and said he will resign as prime minister.
