[Hidden Wonders of Japan] This Hotel Has Dinosaur Robots for Receptionists

Published

I had heard that there was quite a sight at the Henn-a Hotel in Urayasu, Chiba, so I headed out to see what the fuss was about.

As I approached the front desk, two dinosaurs greeted me. A loud cry echoed through the room: “GOOO!”

In case this isn’t enough to impress you, the dinosaurs are also responsible for cleaning and window wiping. In fact, wherever you go in the hotel, a robot helper will be there to greet you.

In total, nine types of robots — amounting to 140 machines — are currently in use at this hotel.

The establishment has 100 rooms, yet manages the business with only seven human employees — about one-fifth of what the average hotel has. This is, of course, due to the ingenious use of robots.

With increasing competition for low costs, it’s not surprising that this hotel is trying to make use of technology to its advantage.

This hotel’s location in Urayasu has the added advantage of being very close to Disneyland. So, if you happen to go to Japan’s version of the “happiest places on earth,” you will find many reviews recommending a stay here.

The Henn-na Hotel is set to open another branch in November — this time, near Tokyo Narita Airport. If you are in the mood for a fun and novel experience, why not check it out?
