Maxell Aqua Park Shinagawa Welcomes Sakura Season — Underwater

Published

on

Maxell Aqua Park Shinagawa is welcoming the cherry blossom season this year by bringing sakura to the depths of the sea.

The venue, which has been in a partnership with the creative company NAKED Inc. since 2015, is offering another way of doing the hanami or watching the cherry blossoms in spring.

Hanami is a Japanese tradition dating back to a few hundred years and now celebrated well beyond the ethnic and geographic boundaries of the Japanese archipelago. The season has become a major moment for tourism in Japan, even gaining the appellation, “sakuranomics,” as tourists swoop upon Japan to enjoy the stunning flowers in bloom.

To cater to this phenomenon as well as the trend of self-expression on SNS, Maxell Aqua Park Shinagawa is creating a brand new way of marketing for the cherry blossom season.

At the entrance to the park you will see a penguin performance — and a sakura project mapping space.

In the evening, there are dolphin performances which take place in a stadium like environment, where you can admire sakura projections over 360 degree views and become engrossed in the cherry blossom atmosphere.

Walking into the main area with the aquariums, you will be able to admire a variety of fish in tanks surrounded by the pink glow of cherry blossom projections. Make sure you walk around and try some of the seasonal drinks designed for the occasion as opening time goes until 10 P.M. and there is something quite unique about wandering through an aquarium while enjoying a glass of sparkling wine.

Blending the experience of the deep sea and the cherry blossom season, Maxell Aqua Park has created an atmosphere which is not available anywhere else. It is an interactive entertainment space which promises to be a highlight of the 2019 sakura season.
